Text message opt-in

How people agree to texts from Five Minute Legacy, operated by Jolly Roger Technologies LLC.

What we text

Five Minute Legacy texts one question a day about the person's life (for example, "Where did you grow up, and what was your house like?"). If they reply, we may text back a short follow-up question, so a conversation can be more than one message. Every text starts with "Five Minute Legacy:".

How people opt in

In the Five Minute Legacy app, on the phone number screen, there are two separate things:

  1. A one-time sign-in code (required). Shown above the "Send me a code" button: "We'll text you a one-time code to confirm this number. Standard message & data rates may apply. We never share your number."
  2. Daily questions (optional). A separate checkbox that is unchecked by default. Its exact words:

I agree to get a daily text from Five Minute Legacy with a question about my life (around 8am unless I change it). If I reply, I may get a short follow-up question. Message frequency varies. Message & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Checking this box is optional. See our Terms and Privacy Policy.

People can create an account and use the app without agreeing to daily texts. They can turn texts on or off later in Settings. Each agreement is recorded with the date and the version of the wording.
