Five Minute Legacy helps you save your life stories a few minutes at a time. We ask you a question each day by text message, phone call or in the app; we use AI to help turn your answers into written stories and organize them; and we let you share them with family you choose.
You must be at least 18 (or the age of majority where you live) to have an account. Keep your sign-in details private. You're responsible for what happens in your account, including anything a helper you chose does on your behalf.
You own your stories, recordings, photos and everything else you add ("your content"). You give us permission to store, process, copy and display your content only as needed to run the service for you: for example, to transcribe recordings, write and organize stories, share them with the people you choose, make books and downloads you request, and keep backups. This permission ends when you delete your content or your account, except for copies already shared with family at your direction and short-lived backups.
Please only add content you have the right to share. Stories naturally involve other people; please be thoughtful about their privacy.
We use AI services (currently Anthropic and Deepgram) to help write and organize your stories and transcribe your voice. AI can make mistakes: it may mishear a name, get a date wrong, or phrase something differently than you would. Your original words and recordings are always kept alongside the written version, and you can edit any story. Don't rely on AI-written text for medical, legal or financial decisions.
If family ask questions of an archive, answers are built from what the person actually recorded and show where they came from. We will not invent memories or opinions a person never expressed, and we do not create synthetic voice or video of anyone.
Texts and calls are optional and only sent with your consent. Message frequency varies; message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop texts and HELP for help. Calls are recorded. You can change or stop either in Settings.
If you give Five Minute Legacy to someone, you confirm that you know them and that they would welcome one invitation. We send one invitation; nothing else happens unless they accept. Don't use gifts to contact people who haven't asked to hear from you.
Don't use the service to harass anyone, to upload content that's illegal or that you don't have the right to share, to impersonate someone, to try to access other people's accounts or data, or to interfere with the service.
Paid plans aren't available yet. When they are, they will be billed through the App Store (or Google Play), renew automatically until you cancel, and can be cancelled any time in your phone's subscription settings. Refunds follow Apple's or Google's refund policies. Printed items from the store are made to order from your stories; we'll describe price and delivery before you order.
You can download everything at any time. You can delete your account at any time in Settings; this is permanent and can't be undone. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms; where we can, we'll give you a chance to download your content first.
If we decide to stop offering Five Minute Legacy, we'll give at least 90 days' notice so you and your family can download everything.
We work hard to keep your stories safe, but the service is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or $100 if you haven't paid). Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
If we make meaningful changes, we'll tell you in the app and ask you to agree before continuing.
These terms are governed by the laws of Indiana, USA.
