We do not use your stories to train our own AI models, and our AI providers are not permitted to train their models on your content under our agreements with them.
| Provider | What they do | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosts our database, file storage and server functions. Also runs the model that lets us find related stories by meaning, inside our own hosting. | Everything stored in the app |
| Anthropic (Claude) | The AI that writes questions and follow-ups, turns answers into stories, and answers family questions from your archive. | The text of your answers and relevant parts of your archive, for each request |
| Deepgram | Turns voice recordings into text. | Your voice recordings |
| Twilio | Sends and receives text messages and places phone calls. | Your phone number, messages, and call audio |
| Resend | Sends emails such as gift invitations and updates. | Email address and message content |
We may add or change providers; we'll update this list when we do.
If you agree, we text you one question a day at your chosen time. If you reply, the AI may continue the conversation, so you may receive more than one message that day. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to stop all texts, or HELP for help. Agreeing to texts is not a condition of using the app. We don't share your phone number or text-messaging consent with anyone for their marketing.
If you choose to be called, we call you at your question time. Calls are recorded so your family can hear your voice and so we can write your story. You can turn calls off in Settings at any time.
When someone gives you Five Minute Legacy, they give us your first name and your phone number or email so we can send you one invitation. We don't create an account or send anything else unless you accept. If you don't accept, the invitation expires and we delete your contact details from it.
Family members you connect with can see your name, photo and birthday, and the stories you've shared with family. They cannot see stories you've kept private, your phone number, email, or account settings. New stories are private by default: only you see them until you choose to share, with all your family or with one person at a time. You can change this default in Settings.
You can choose keepers. A keeper may ask to open your legacy; when they do, we notify you and wait for the period you chose (3 to 60 days, 14 by default). If you open the app and tap "I'm still here", nothing is opened. When you have more than one keeper, two must agree. Only then are your sealed messages and the stories you marked "after I'm gone" shared as you directed.
You can also record your wishes about how AI may use your stories later: for example, whether family may only read and listen, or may also ask questions of your archive. We will not create new speech or video in your likeness. If we ever offer that, it will only be for people who explicitly agreed to it while alive. Answers from your archive are built only from what you actually said; when you never talked about something, it says so.
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our hosting provider. Access is limited by database rules, so each person can read only their own data and what family has chosen to share with them. No system is perfectly secure; if something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.
Five Minute Legacy is not directed to children under 13, and accounts are for adults. Stories may mention children; please share thoughtfully.
Depending on where you live (for example, California or the EU/UK), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your information, and to object to certain processing. Contact info@fiveminutelegacy.com. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll tell you in the app and ask you to agree again before continuing.
